Applications Contained Inside the Package

Except Digenis there are also a dozen of applications contained inside the ixp1200eeb package.

• Packet Counter (ixp-pktcnt)

  An application that counts all the packets that the IXP1200 receives in any of its ports (100 Mbit/s or 1 Gbit/s). I used to use this application in the early stages of debugging.

• Packet Generator (ixp-pktgen)

  An application that transmits a packet to a Gigabit port. This packet has been created in the memory of the IXP1200. So, the packet generator transmits the same packet again and again. I used to use this application in conjuction with the packet counter for debugging. For this purpose i was using two IXP1200 processors. One of them was the generator and the other was the receiver - counter.

• Forwarder (ixp-forwarder)

  This application transmits everything that the IXP1200 receives in the first Gigabit port to the second Gigabit port.

• Splitter (ixp-splitter)

  This application is a splitter. It transmits the packets that receives from the Gigabit port to the 8 Fast Ethernet ports and vice versa.

• Splitter Fiber (ixp-splitter-fiber)

  This application is a splitter as the above one. The difference is that only the 2 Gigabit ports are used. This application has a table of MAC addresses and modifies the destination MAC addresses of the outgoing packets.

• Digenis (ixp-digenis)

  No comment.

• Digenis Fiber (ixp-digenis-fiber)

  This is Digenis that, as the splitter fiber, uses only the Gigabit ports.
